We went to Capitola for dinner only a few nights after they had experienced serious flooding in the shopping/restaurant area near the beach, due to the bad storms (and a broken storm drain). Sandbags in front of a lot of the businesses, and mud still in the streets. Pretty bad damage. However, the restaurants on the Esplanade had only minimal damage, and were back open immediately.
Before heading out to a concert with our younger son and his fiance, we had dinner at the Paradise Beach Grille. We had previously eaten there for lunch. Nice, but nothing special. Dinner was a different story. In addition to their regular menu they had a $25 3 course prix fixe menu: clam chowder, onion soup or salad; salmon, chicken or beef; creme brulee or chocolate mousse. Between the 4 of us we tried all the dishes, and were not disappointed in any of the dishes. Actually, they were all quite good. The meal as a whole was wonderful: great service, nice background music with live acoustic guitar, great food and great value. Adding to the value was the wine list, which had minimal markup. We had a 2008 Cuvaison Pinot Noir from the Carneros region of Napa Valley; only $38 for the bottle!
A great experience; highly recommended if you're in the Santa Cruz area.
