Christmas is here and almost gone. The wrapping paper in the recycling bin, but the tree and lights still around. (By the way, don't forget to recycle your tree. Most cities either have their own recycling program, or the Boy Scouts take care of it.) What to do in the next few months?
I've always been a big fan of Santa Cruz in the Winter. Not as many people around, and the area has a different vibe during the Winter. If you can imagine, it's even more relaxed in Santa Cruz this time of year. It's a good time to visit the wineries, and get to talk to the winemakers without a lot of other people around. Or enjoy some of the excellent restaurants. This is the season of "We'll let you in on our secrets." There's usually less fog than the Summer. There are big waves to watch, and the surfing contest at
Mavericks. Sometimes you get whale sightings off the coast. And with the first rains, the pine forests turn even greener, and rivers and waterfalls start running. Here's a photo from
Seacliff State Beach, just southeast of Santa Cruz.
