Redwood forests, Pacific Ocean, coastal mountains, dormant/extinct volcanos, vineyards and wineries. Keep going north from
Napa and Sonoma and you run smack into Mendocino and Lake Counties, with incredibly varied topography, geology and climates.
And in Mendocino County you’ll find the highest concentration of organic and sustainably farmed vineyards in California.
These factors have combined to make Mendocino and Lake Counties a desired destination for those looking to get a little
further away from the hustle and bustle of Napa and Sonoma. Probably the best known AVA within Mendocino and Lake is the
Anderson Valley. This valley, only about 15 miles long, runs in from the ocean, staying cool all through the growing season.
This has made it attractive for growing Pinot Noir, both for still and sparkling wines.
Hiking through giant redwoods in the morning, wine tasting in the afternoon, and a sunset dinner overlooking the Pacific.
It’s hard to beat a day like this. Or a few days like this. The first time you go might be just to get away, or just for
a different experience. But you’ll be back. The natural beauty of the area, the friendly people, the eco-friendly attitude,
and the great wine tasting experiences will bring you back, again and again.
